[PnP] Rule 4.511 Spell Failure due to injury

I can just see the "Murphy's Rules" on this one:

"A peasant dodging about and trying not to be hit has the same defenses as a wizard standing still while casting."

Cue picture of wizard with cobwebs hanging off him and a single arrow in his hat, surrounded by screaming peasants running around, many of whom are pincusioned. :}

But your system does have the advantage of being "dialed" to the situation. In my Legends game the players indeed did dial their shield skill as needed (putting some toward defense, some toward resistance to breakage).

Some of this is prompted by the overwhelming power of mages at the high end. In my first legend's game I had one of the mages firing off lightning bolts at targets they are engaged in melee with. I have no problem with mages having all the time in the world if they are in the back row, but some modifiers were needed if they are up close and personal, or under missile fire.

He may opt to concentrate on his spellcasting for full effect, but as a result he gets a -10* in combat (* increase hit severity). He may avoid this -10* penalty in combat, but his defensive movements impose a +20 on his roll for casting the spell.

Hiya.

    What I'd do is just count a casters DCV as 0 if he is "concentrating
on casting"; if he is also trying to be defensive, I'd let him use
however much of his DCV he wants, at a pentalty of -3 to his casting
roll. So, if he had a DCV of 7, he could use between 1 and 7 (for a
casting penalty of -3 to -21).
