Basic food recovery is already part of Survival's hunting rules. Anyone that already has a survival skill doesn't really need it for the basic uses, it's the folks working the slaughterhouse but don't know hunting that do. I'm thinking it would be less part of a wilderness skill than it would be a separate trade all it's own.
Come to that, it occurs to me that Slaughterhouses might teach a General Knowledge (Heroes 2/2) version of Executioner, as well. Maybe a package version of Butchery, Tanner, and GK Executioner (Call it Slaughter, maybe?). Everything you need to kill and render generally useful components (meat and hides) from cattle and pigs at the abattoir. Mind you, I'm not saying that some barbarians wouldn't have it too, but, unless butchery is done at the site of the kill, it might be something more common with the folks that stay in camp, rather than the hunters (who, again, already have a limited version in Survival). And the Shamans, if course, for getting the really good bits.
Of course, the main reason I came up with the skill for play would be for other uses, but the reason it would exist in the setting would be for the more mundane uses: a butcher and a farmer/rancher getting the most profit for each food animal.
>Not a bad idea. If you look at the natural magic plants, some of them are deadly if not picked correctly by a trained herbalist. Your solution would be equivalent. Maybe even include the skill as part of one of the generalist skills, like woodsman (or whatever that one is).
