I think one of the things that, as a gamemaster, I would find interesting to throw on the players, would be the raw destructive force of the magic unleashed without a conscious mind controlling it. For instance ... players are facing against EvilMage. Evil is in the midst of casting a spell, and at the point of manifestation is rendered "out of it" (dead, whatever.) The magical forces have been summoned, but the parameters defining the manifestation have been broken and some sort of chaos/rift forms because of it.
Within the rules? No. Within dramatic license? Indeed!! I like my gaming to be a little less formulaic than the rules present. Call me a glutton for interesting story.
