* Creature / Culture Sea Based Technology
Based on data from the creature and animal material the following
are possible situations that each creature or race could have for
their use. This is only a guideline and can be expanded or ignored
entirely. The bottom of the file has special site information
on special Perilous Land sites.
1. Asrai
These creatures are water based and never leave the water or
they will die. As such the Referee could design water based
technology for them. They have to live somewhere. So dwellings or
lairs could have some structure to them. Maybe a area where they
can live half in and half out the water or a cave with dwelling
materials in it like food and light. They may have need to carry
and transport heavy items from place to place. So maybe the
Referee could define a underwater cargo box that can drift down
the water without being seen.
2. Asaghi
Asaghi are highly intelligent creatures. As such they may
be called to the Middle World to perform tasks. In these tasks
they may need use of water craft. They may either create a quick
raft or boat or use a supplied one based on their intelligence.
3. Baobhan
These creatures are smart enough INT 5 and 6 that they could
fashion rudimentary technology. This may include a small low tech
raft or small boat if needed. It is possible they may create this
technology in service to something else or from desperate need.
4. Besamar
These gentle and joyful people are intelligent and will help
others if they can. In that regard some may need to use water to
move from place to place or obtain items from distant places. As
such there is no reason they could create or use already created
boats.
5. Border Redcap
While these creatures may have the basic intelligence to use
small rafts or water sleds they tend not to. However, if needs
arise where they have to transport large kills from one place to
another they could use water technology like rope and logs to
drag the body down the water. The referee could even allow them
to make small rafts for this purpose.
6. Centaur
Centaur are not known to make use of water for their daily
lives other than for drinking. But during times of war to move
large groups of them and supplies brilliant centaurs could create
small boats for this purpose. But this is more rare than common.
7. Cuca Queen
While the Cuca may not be smart enough the Queen certainly is
to utilize water based technology. For a specific reason or
purpose she may use a boat or board another boat for her task
until it is complete.
8. Daoine Sidhe
These Sidhe are highly intelligent and very old in knowledge.
As such there is good reason they may have created boats or in
some cases ships if the need is there. They could easily have
obtained the information or perfected it.
9. Dwarf
It is certainly easy to find a Dwarf board a human ship or
boat. So the step to them creating their own boats or ships
it not hard to believe. Most by nature would not but there may
be a few in need of transporting materials or other dwarfs from
one place to another.
On the other hand some say Dwarfs would not make a boat at
all as their love for water is gone from their world*.
10. Edali
These are akin to the Dwarf. But they have a special ability
for the mechanical arts among other skill areas. This knowledge
may allow them to create boats or small ships. This ability
may also serve to help in technology on ships and boats for other
races like humans.
11. Elefan
They have the intelligence for manufacture of some water
based technology. The referee could certainly allow river boats
since they live on an island. If things are really needed alight
ocean going ship. But river craft of a small nature could not
be unheard of helping to get resources from the mainland.
12. Elf
The Elves are like Dwarves. They can easily be seen on boats
and ships. While they are known more as forest folk they could
make water craft like river boats or even in some cases ocean
going ships (if they have a need for them).
There are stories and secrets the elite keep. They know of
a group of Sea Elves* that live in hidden islands far west of the
island where Utgard's children dwell. They are a forgotten group
mentioned by few Elves on the mainland. The result of friction
that dates back to Armageddon. The ships these elves possess
are sleek warships that are the equal of anything on the water.
Most are sailing craft. A few of the largest are oar driven with
human slaves used to power them. Such craft are used for cargo
and, when needed, to move large numbers of people.
13. Faerry
While the Faerry are skittish around water they may be seen
on craft like the Elf and Dwarf. There may be times when the
Faerry require long travel. To do this creation of boats or
even ships may be needed. But this is more rare than common.
Faerry tend to use boats at Avalon*. They are pleasure craft
only. The types are fancy barges, elegant rafts and beautiful
sailboats. They do not take such craft off of the lake that
Avalon is built next to.
14. Fata Shen
These beings may need boats for the service they have to
perform. Being humans or Elves there is no reason they could
use other boats or ships as transport as well.
15. Goblins
Elite and King Goblins may have need of small boats for times
of war. These war craft are used to ferry warriors from place to
place. Other than war though Goblins tend to avoid water based
technology.
16. Gwydi
These beings in their service to their god may have need to
use water craft like boats (or small ships). They have the
intelligence to use or manufacture them.
17. Hobgoblin
These are akin to the Goblins in their use of boats. In
times of war they may make war barges or boats.
18. Leon
These creatures are intelligent and can breath water and
air. Their magical powers also help in water environments.
These creatures may not use boats but they could use some form
of technology to help them in the water. This may be as basic
as a log in the river to cross or a series of logs used as a
small but unsteady raft.
19. Master
These powerful beings would certainly have the skills and
knowledge to make or board boats & ships.
20. Mer People
While these creatures live in the water they would not have
real need for boats or ships. But they could have some form
of water based technology. Some ideas may be containers for
prisoners or cargo to their lairs and hiding places. They
could utilize the environment like plant growth to form stealth
devices to get closer to ships.
21. Mir
Mir may be summoned for specific tasks. These tasks may
cause the Mir to employ water craft in some fashion. They
would have that intelligence if needed.
22. Trold Folk
Trold Folk are found in water based encounters and have been
known to attack ships. These creatures could have if their
leaders deem it small boats for the capture of prisoners or cargo.
These boats may have been captured themselves and not manufactured.
23. Trolls
Trolls would not use or make boats or ships. However, they
may utilize water based technology. They may create small rafts
to move dead prey they have killed to their lairs. These might
be small from a log or two to a small raft tied by plan material.
The Troll would have to be in need of such to make it.
24. True Sidhe
As with the creatures they share a name (Daoine and Baobhan)
these intelligent creatures could use boats in some fashion or
another.

* Special Sites and Water Technology
The Perilous Lands has special sites all over the globe. The
Referee can use the below as a suggestion to flesh out their
own special sites.
1. Kingdom of Mab
This Kotothi kingdom has a Tower as its focus which is in
a trackless swamp. Because of this it is only natural this
site may have 1 or 2 swamp or river craft to get forces from
one place to another.
2. The Haunt
This site is full of ghosts from the ancient capital of
the empire del'Nord. the ocean is a short distance away.
It could have a ghost ship that travels the seas as some
form of protection for the city or tied to the haunt region.
3. Temple of the Hills
While the site itself may not have any water craft the
nearby waters may have some relationship to it. Some suggestions
may be wrecks of ships that tell give clues or rumors on location
of hidden caves with more del'Nord ships or wrecks. Wrecks could
give items that give clues as to the empire's demise.
4. H'ss'r Mountain
This L'p'nth religious site may have a special ship or river
craft of its own. This ship could serve some religious function
or transport for its leaders.
5. The Dark Lands
There is no reason this land could have a fleet of ships and
Boats for the nearby ocean. The north sea may be too hostile
but the eastern sea might contain this fleet. These may include
fishing, timber or even small warships.
6. The Island
While its possible a Referee could allow the Giants to have
a ship for fishing or such its unlikely. However, there could
be wrecks of ships or ships adrift from the giant attacks on
them. Maybe the Giants have slaves to do their fishing and
thus there is a fishing ship that sails around the Island but
can't go far out to sea to escape the Giants.
