If they are working on something. they get much more EP. That is covered under Performance of Skills, and the points are determined by success and difficulty. If they are working, they get NO STUDY.

This is in addition to the free point of language gained, if they are immersed in the language (i.e. WHile staying in Caldo, you would get 1 point per day in Caldan).
People living in the wilderness (i.e. not hanging around the inns and bars of a town, fort or city) gained 1 point per day in the terrain survival.
